Chris Dede explains Intelligence Augmentation (IA) as when a person and AI are working together to do things neither are able to do well on their own. I find this so cool, IA and AI or AI and IA !
Chris Dede points to an interesting scenario. A teacher working with an AI Teaching Assistant would have the AI doing the routine teaching tasks. Then the teacher can focus more deeply on other aspects such as personalization, bring in the equity dimension, cultural dimension, and I imagine, the social and emotional aspects, and Special Needs aspects. That is, the more human aspects of teaching that the AI does not understand or cannot go there.
Chris Dede says that our present assessment is flawed when we use tests that AI does well. Instead we should use performance measures. I agree with this and it is something that I know about. Chris Dede talks about shifting from teaching to learning. He says that both teaching and learning are important. But teaching is like pouring knowledge into the minds of the learners. Learning is more open-ended. And this is important for the future and in the age of AI, learning has to be more self-directed with students having more agency over their learning and have the skills to pursue new information. I agree with this and Rebecca Winthrop said the same thing. So AI can be helpful as an intellectual partner that can help you learn in different ways, even when you don’t have a teacher.
So this gives me the idea of a student using a personalized Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) and the teacher has an Adaptive Learning System that is tied into the Learning Management System.

Generative AI and ChatGPT are Large Language Models (LLM) so the whole story of AI and writing and writing of essays in schools and using AI to write journal articles and anyone writing text in these days of generative AI is not new to me.
